Pohatu | Years 1-2
Hinewai | Years 3-6
Students begin their journey in the Pohatu learning nest for the first two years before moving through to the Hinewai learning hub for the remaining junior years.
In the Junior Hub, we understand and recognise that the transition to school is a vital period in the lives of our students. Therefore our primary focus is on establishing a strong foundation through the delivery of the core curriculum, specifically Literacy and Numeracy, while providing a broad and enriching programme with opportunities for integrated learning and inquiry learning.
The collaborative teaching and learning space provides a comprehensive programme incorporating all the learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum with a strong foundation in the core areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The natural resources and the heritage of our local environment enrich our teaching and learning programmes, and provide a beautiful backdrop for camps, and connecting with our people and community.
Students begin their journey in the Pohatu learning nest for the first two years before moving through to the Hinewai learning hub for the remaining junior years. The collaborative approach, the small ratio of students to teacher and high level of learning support staff, ensures students needs are a high priority. The school also provides the opportunity for junior students to utilise specialist facilities such as the music suite, arts and media suite, technology rooms, science lab and the gymnasium and swimming pool.
