Our values underpin our school culture, our school rules and our relationships.

WE SHOW ACCEPTANCE, TOLERANCE AND SENSITIVITY TO ALL INDIVIDUALS AND PEOPLE.

As a rural school we value our close relationship with the local runanga. We support each other in our respective roles as tangata whenua (hosts) and kaiako (facilitators of learning).

Akaroa Area School follows the kawa (protocols) of our local runanga, has a consultation process in place and we value local representation at all formal occasions. As a result of these direct links with our local runanga we consider ourselves as family and therefore part of the Onuku Marae whanau.

At Akaroa students are supported to be successful and make positive progress in their learning. They benefit from the guidance of many passionate and committed teachers who have a strong desire to see them achieve.

OUR GOALS:
WE AIM TO MAKE FULL USE OF OUR VERY UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT AS A RESOURCE FOR LEARNING

A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD

The Board of Trustees welcomes you to the Akaroa Area School. We feel very privileged to have been elected by the school community to support and guide the school as it progresses in its journey of providing a great educational experience.

In Akaroa we are very lucky to have an amazing environment in which to learn and a strong community from which to draw experience.

The board is committed to working with the principal and staff to implement our values of Respect, Integrity, Perseverance and Pride and to live our vision of Kotahitanga – Awhinatia a nga ra – As One – We Embrace the Future. We also have a strong sense of whanaungatanga – familyness where each member of our school is part of our whanau and we look after each other as family members do.

We value the voices of all our stakeholders – pupils, parents, carers, teachers, leaders and community and we welcome you to our school and look forward to meeting you soon.
