Weekly Events and Reminders – 11 April 2019

Term Two Newsletter
Please find attached the term 2 newsletter with the dates for what’s coming up next term.

Mufti
There will be a normal mufti tomorrow as it is the last school day for April. Please remember to bring a gold coin to donate.

Please see both the attached flyers regarding an Aerobics workshop and their holiday programme.

Dental Service in Term 2
The dental clinic will be running next term and if any parents have any concerns or don’t want their child seen, please contact their call centre on 0800 846 983.

Tots to Teens

Little River Gymnastics
This will be running on Saturdays for each of term 2 and 3.
Term 2 days will begin on May 12th and Term 3 on July 28th. Classes are divided into 3 age groups and spaces are limited so we encourage booking in.
Preschool 2-4years: 9-9:45am
Primary A 5-6 years 10-10.45am
Primary B 7-9 years 11-11.45am
Classes are held at the Little River Community Centre Hall

Community Support Workers 
Required in Akaroa Area. Part time work. For more information please contact Sarah Mathers Access Community Health. 0800 284 663.

Casafest
We are just awaiting confirmation of some details for Casafest so final notice should be ready to go later today.

Lost Property
Just another reminder to pick up lost property before the end of term. We have a foam squab which may have been left after camp. Please contact the office if it is yours.

Events and Reminders – 1 April 2019

Procedures for signing in/out
Please make sure to sign in your child at the office if they are late to school and sign them out if you are taking them out during school time. All late/leave slips must have a reason specified. 

Student Led Conferences
SLCs for Hinewai will take place tomorrow (2 April) and for Pohatu on Monday 8 April. Bookings for Hinewai will close tonight. 

BBQ and Strategic plan evening- Wednesday 3 April
BBQ will start at 5pm on Wednesday and planning session from 6pm – 8pm. Childcare will be provided by older students. We would love all parents to attend. Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can plan catering and childcare. Flyer attached.

Gumboot day- Friday 5 April
Gumboot Friday is a new initiative by New Zealander of the Year, Mike King, and I Am Hope. They are aiming to raise $2million for kids who need some mental health support. You can find out more about Gumboot Friday at www.iamhope.org.nz/gumbootfriday
We’re asking our students, teachers and parents to wear gumboots to school in support of Gumboot Friday. Put your gumboots on and bring along a gold coin donation (if you can) or you can make a donation directly through their website. All funds raised on the day will help provide free counselling to children who need it.
Please encourage your friends, family and community to #GumbootUpNZ on 5 April!

Casafest
Countdown to Casafest is on! Final information sheet will be sent at the end of the week.

Lost property and second hand uniform
We have a large number of lost property items at the Gym. If they are not collected this week we will dispose of them to op shop or sell for fundraising. 
We have a large amount of second hand uniform items for sale including some nice jerseys which may be useful for winter. Please enquire at the office.

Storytime at Akaroa Library. Thursday 18 April 11am -12pm. 

Antarctic Centre:
With the April holidays just around the corner, our bookings are now open for our ‘Experience Antarctica’ Holiday programme and for the always popular ‘Penguin Keeper’ programme.
· “Experience Antarctica” $69.00 (6 – 12yrs)
Do your children like adventure and having fun then during the holidays have them join the explorers at the Antarctic Centre! They will discover the Little Blue Penguins, chill out in the snow and ice room, ride the awesome Hagglund, find out how to survive in Antarctica, play games and much much more…!
The adventures will be running Mon 15th – Thurs 18th April 2019 from 9.00am  – 4.30pm during the first week of the holidays, and as each day is different book for one day or more!
· “Be a Penguin Keeper for a Day” $79.00 (10 -13yrs)
Join our penguin keepers and assist them in their daily routine to look after the Little Blue and White Flippered Penguins. Includes an exclusive back stage access to other areas including the vet room and penguin feeding pulpit. Other activities include the 4D and Hagglund Ride.
This programme will be running Mon 15th – Thurs 18th April 2019 from 9.00am – 4.30pm during first week of the school holidays.
