MOE and Netsafe Help for our Students

In the wake of recent events and the sadness and pain felt by all, our ongoing collective vigilance is still needed regarding the potential exposure of our young people to the objectionable video and any objectionable online material.
Please take some time to look at the following links from the Ministry of Education and Netsafe. Whilst there may not have been direct exposure to the content of ‘the video’ there may be young people who are aware of the content, know others who have seen or shared it or are experiencing secondary trauma in that they know someone who has seen it.
Secondary trauma is also a legitimate concern for those who know people who were directly involved or affected by this event.
The MOE website continues to be updated with advice regarding children and young people who have viewed the Christchurch video footage or are aware of it;

http://www.education.govt.nz/news/advice-regarding-children-and-young-people-who-have-seen-christchurch-attack-video-or-manifesto/

Here is another link that may be useful for families;

http://education.govt.nz/news/tips-for-parents-and-educators-helping-children-stay-connected-and-recover-well/

We encourage caregivers to limit online time for children and young people. Netsafe has useful advice on how to talk with young people about what they should do if they come across distressing content;

https://www.netsafe.org.nz/upsetting-content/.

If you have any concerns regarding any of these matters please contact a member of the senior leadership team as we can assist and refer you to external support agencies.

Principal

It also provides a handy link for phoning/emailing an absence. It’s very easy to add this app to your phone and the instructions are below.
Please make sure you download the app and keep the notifications activated or you may miss vital information or emergency notifications.
To download: go to google play or the app store and search for “Skool Loop”. Once you have done that please open the app on your phone and select Akaroa Area School.

BP Netball Club
Year 3 and 4 Boys and Girls
Do you want to give netball a go?
All games played in Little River on a Wednesday after school for folk over that way and Akaroa for the others on a Tuesday. Both starting at 3.30 and going to 4.30
Cost $30 for all fun activity and game sessions starting late March and finishing at the end of Term 2.

Jan Whitehead will be running it again in Akaroa and Roriana Tini in Little River (with support from Jan when work commitments clash).

The focus for this age group is learning basic skills in a modified game of 5 v 5, using two-thirds of a Netball court. Mother Earth future FERNS Year 3 & 4 is designed to be fast and fun, maximising participation and touches of the ball. With modified equipment and less players on the court, in 5 v 5 the game is less complicated. Five players in each team and rotating positions ensures everyone gets an equal chance to develop their skills.
